FLASH NEWS — Chairman's activity Pakistan Veterinary Pharmaceutical Association (PVPA) National Dialogue on "Harnessing Pakistan's Livestock Potential" PVPA Chairman Dr. Asim Mahmood Khan Represents the Veterinary Pharmaceutical Industry and Holds High-Level Stakeholder Meetings The Government of Pakistan hosted a high-level National Dialogue on "Harnessing Pakistan's Livestock Potential" on 15 July 2026 at the Prime Minister's Office, Islamabad. The event brought together federal ministers, members of parliament, senior government officials, experts from the livestock, poultry and veterinary sectors, representatives of the private sector, academia, development partners, and other key stakeholders. The objective of the dialogue was to formulate practical policy recommendations aimed at strengthening Pakistan's livestock and poultry sectors through improved food security, effective disease control, increased investment, value addition, and export promotion. The Pakistan Veterinary Pharmaceutical Association (PVPA) was represented by its Chairman, Dr. Asim Mahmood Khan, who actively participated in the technical sessions and presented the veterinary pharmaceutical industry's perspective on key issues, including regulatory reforms, veterinary drug registration, availability of quality vaccines, disease prevention and control, research and development, investment opportunities, and export growth. In his remarks, Dr. Asim Mahmood Khan emphasized that the veterinary pharmaceutical industry plays a pivotal role in the sustainable development of Pakistan's livestock and poultry sectors. He stated that achieving national food security goals and expanding livestock-based exports depend on healthy animals, effective disease prevention, timely vaccination programs, and the uninterrupted availability of high-quality veterinary medicines. He urged the government to further streamline and accelerate the veterinary drug registration process, ensure greater regulatory transparency, promote research and innovation, and establish an enabling policy environment that supports local manufacturing, encourages investment, and enhances the international competitiveness of Pakistan's veterinary pharmaceutical industry. Participation of Poultry Industry Leaders The dialogue was also attended by prominent leaders and representatives of Pakistan's poultry industry, who highlighted the sector's priorities and shared recommendations regarding taxation, disease control, biosecurity, export promotion, production costs, availability of veterinary vaccines and medicines, regulatory reforms, and investment facilitation. High-Level Meetings On the sidelines of the dialogue, Dr. Asim Mahmood Khan held productive meetings with senior government officials, industry representatives, and other stakeholders. During the networking session, he also met with Mr. Syed Hussain Tariq, Chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research. Their discussion focused on the challenges facing the veterinary pharmaceutical and poultry industries, regulatory improvements, disease control strategies, and measures to enhance Pakistan's export potential. Addresses by the Prime Minister and Federal Minister In his closing address, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif described the livestock, poultry, and veterinary sectors as vital contributors to Pakistan's economy, food security, employment generation, and export growth. He directed the relevant ministries to thoroughly review the recommendations presented during the dialogue and translate them into effective policy measures. Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening collaboration with the private sector to promote the sustainable growth of the livestock, poultry, and veterinary pharmaceutical industries. Conclusion Concluding the event, Dr. Asim Mahmood Khan, Chairman of the Pakistan Veterinary Pharmaceutical Association (PVPA), described the National Dialogue as a timely and constructive initiative.
